frequently asked questions

WHY IS SWIRCA & MORE UNDERTAKING A CAMPAIGN NOW?

After nearly 50 years of exemplary community service, SWIRCA has reached a tipping point. The swelling numbers of seniors and the sheer level of need means we are no longer able to keep pace with our current space. Our mission is to serve everyone regardless of age, abilities, and income levels. We are committed to service, and that commitment requires us to reach out to our friends and partners now in order to secure the future.

HOW DOES YOUR NEW BUILDING TIE IN WITH THE CAMPAIGN?

The major hurdle for many of our programs is space. We have funding to add staff, but must have space for them to work with clients in secure, confidential, private spaces. After careful study, we feel it best to add space at our current location. This is right where we need to be. SWIRCA has used its own funds to perform necessary maintenance and access. The campaign is an opportunity for our friends and partners to decide how much SWIRCA can provide, how soon, and how intensively.

WHY NOT JUST CHARGE MORE FOR YOUR SERVICES?

The Older American’s Act (OAA), which established every Area Agency on Aging (AAA) in the U.S. does not allow Agencies to charge for individual services. The OAA was intended to be a match program and encouraged local AAA’s to seek community investment and support.

HOW WILL SWIRCA & MORE USE MY CONTRIBUTION?

Unrestricted contributions to the campaign will support the overall initiatives listed in the campaign materials, under the oversight of the Board of Directors. If you prefer, you may designate your gift to support one or more programs and initiatives that touch your heart.

IS MY CONTRIBUTION TAX DEDUCTIBLE?

Yes! SWIRCA & More is designated a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization by the Internal Revenue Service. Your gift to the campaign is tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

WILL THE CAMPAIGN ACCEPT MULTI-YEAR PLEDGES?

Gift commitments spread over time allow our friends and partners to make more significant investments in the needs of seniors and those living with disabilities while optimizing investment and financial planning. Pledges also provide more time for donors to create endowed funds for a lasting impact. Three to five year pledges are encouraged. Other options can always be discussed.

HOW WILL DONORS BE RECOGNIZED?

Donors will be recognized as they feel most appropriate, whether as individuals, through their company or family foundation, or in recognition of another. We will also respectfully honor any requests for anonymity.

CONSIDERING THE STATE OF THE ECONOMY, IS A CAMPAIGN FEASIBLE?

SWIRCA engaged a professional, third-party study of the potential for a campaign and the level of community support we might receive. The results were very encouraging. Early indications of interest from the community have also been very rewarding. There is never a perfect time for a campaign. We feel compelled, though, to step out in this campaign before any local resident is turned down for services or put on a wait list.

WHAT IMPACT WILL THE CAMPAIGN REALLY HAVE ON OUR COMMUNITY?

Seniors stay at home, saving money, and enhancing their quality of life. Nutrition is provided to all who need a hand. Seniors have a place to learn, exercise, and stay engaged and involved. People with disabilities will have access to caring, knowledgeable counseling. Essential caregivers will be supported, educated, and assisted.
