Activity and wellness center

Keeping hearts beating strong!

As seniors age, exercise becomes more crucial for cognitive function, mental health, balance, and sleep. Specifically designed for seniors, SWIRCA's Activity and Wellness Center is not only cost effective, but also delivers essential health benefits, such as specially tailored group activities, fall prevention education, and meaningful socialization.

PRIORITIES

expand center’s footprint to accomodate incredible growth

Demand for all exercise classes has grown well beyond capacity, and more space is desperately needed to welcome new members, offer additional evidence-based classes, and expand services for the projected growth of our senior population.

Key Investment Areas:

  • Relocate the Ivy Café, SWIRCA's largest neighborhood lunch site to free up much needed square footage.

  • Add partitions and noise absorbing tiles so multiple activities can be conducted at one time without disruption.
  • INCREASE ACCESSIBILITY by removing an existing interior wall to widen access into the Center and to ease mobility for seniors who utilize walking aids and wheelchairs.
  • ENHANCE SAFETY by replacing the old concrete floors with a softer version that is more supportive to the muscles and joints.
  • BUILD FOR THE FUTURE by upgrading the old sound system and overhead lighting for energy and cost savings.
  • TAILORING HEALTH BENEFITS by repurposing the current Wellness Room and designing a new, larger workout room that will feature equipment specially designed for active seniors looking for low to medium impact exercise.
  • STRENGTHENING SOCIAL INTERACTIONS by incorporating a new multi-purpose conversation lounge.

MEals On Wheels Southwestern Indiana

Delivering More Than Just Meals

SWIRCA’s Meals on Wheels program delivers a personal and valuable lifeline of care and support. Frequent in-home visits through meal delivery provides unique opportunities to meet nutritional needs, combat social isolation, address safety hazards, and provide care to homebound seniors.

PRIORITIES

Newly REalized Lunch Site

Meal sites, like SWIRCA's Ivy Café, provides engagement and fellowship opportunities, nutritional education, and encourages seniors to remain active in their communities.

Lunch sites also offer older adults a dignified meal out with friends. Our newly realized café will give patrons a variety of menu options and a modern atmosphere, while breaking down stigmas often associated with receiving a financially supported meal. Without such a space, meaningful engagement opportunities will be lost, and seniors will be underserved.

Key Investment Areas:

  • Expand and enhance meal service through congregate meal sites and delivery routes.

  • Kitchen upgrades to support the capacity of an additional 24,000 meals per year.
  • Build a larger, more efficient food pantry that will suitably store and manage the essential supplies and donations that are received monthly for the needs of seniors and homebound clients.

CARE MANAGEMENT

Offering Choices to Meet Wellness Goals

Assistance provided by our Care Management team include general advocacy, resource linkage, eligibility determinations for home and community-based services, and nursing home placement. Once services are in place, Care Managers provide continuous support, monitoring client progress against person-centered goals and adjusting care plans as functional needs change, to promote health and safety.

PRIORITIES

care manager with tenant

capacity to hire additional care managers

The Care Management department is the largest division in our organization with nearly 60 full-time team members and support staff. The Care Management wing is approximately 3,000 square feet and is packed wall to wall with cubicle partitions.

The urgent need for our services is increasing on a daily basis and each team member is managing the maximum number of caseloads

that is permissible. Due to lack of space, additional staff can not be hired. We can fund the additional staff, but we need the room.

CO-WORK SPACES & Training Centers

SWIRCA's current footprint has no additional room for co-working spaces or training rooms and team members must assemble elsewhere in the building, which at times is already occupied by other employees and clients.

Key Investment Areas:

  • Construct a new 16,000 square foot addition, adjacent to SWIRCA’s current building. ADA certified, this new structure will help us to expand current programming while also allowing us the capacity to hire additional staff.
  • Inspiration Suite - with co-working stations and multi-purpose rooms for specialized trainings, group collaboration, and client programming.

  • Technology Labs - offering a non-judgmental space to access technology, continue life-long learning, gain new skills, and explore today’s digital world.

  • Board Room - a 1,200 sq. ft. space that can easily accommodate 40 people for group training or be split into smaller spaces for classes, presentations, and client instruction.

  • Courtyard - connecting our two buildings, this serene space will be an ideal place for seniors to rest, reflect, and meditate. Peaceful environment for support groups.

  • Orthopedic Health Care - individuals obtaining services at SWIRCA will now have the option to obtain orthopedic care through Tri-State Orthopedics on-site clinic.

Aging & Disability Resource Center

Free, Unbiased, and Direct Access to Community Resources

SWIRCA addresses and relieves the many frustrations an individual or family caregiver may experience when trying to learn or access private or public support services. Options Counselors examine each client’s particular needs, review a full range of available options, provide objective information, and empower individuals to make informed decisions

PRIORITIES

Private Counseling Rooms

SWIRCA’s Resource Center is extremely small (approximately 250 square feet) and fits five full-time Options Counselors in tiny office cubicles. There is no space or privacy to conduct confidential in-person assessments and conversation from nearby offices can be troublesome. Private counseling rooms are desperately needed so counselors may conduct confidential sessions that are both welcoming and comforting to the clients they wish to help.

Key Investment Areas:

  • Expand the total footprint of the ADRC by renovating neighboring office spaces and conference areas to transform them into counseling rooms and flexible workspaces.

  • Upgrade restrooms to accommodate individuals who may need the assistance of a caregiver or parent.

Caregiver Library

SWIRCA's Caregiver Awareness and Resource Education (CARE) Library provides a valuable resource for family caregivers, offering access to free educational materials on a broad range of caregiving topics.

The CARE Library improves the quality of life for caregivers and those who receive their care by delivering positive encouragement and meaningful support, along with important advice and tools.

Key Investment Areas:

  • Expand and relocate the CARE Library so caregivers and their families can have a a comfortable and private place to access an exclusive anthology of resource materials and tools to strengthen their knowledge and gain peace of mind.

  • Enhance current caregiver programs and incorporate new evidence-based initiatives to support the increasing number of caregivers in our region.
